Pilates for Injury
Since the earliest days, Pilates has been used to
work with injured people. Its way of doing this is perfectly complementary to
physiotherapy: in physiotherapy you focus on the problem area, but in Pilates we avoid the
problem area and focus on the rest of the body. Pilates starts where physiotherapy ends.
For this reason, Pilates can work very well alongside physiotherapy and it is even possible to do both at the same time if your physical therapist is happy. Pilates´ ongoing work of strengthening and stretching can help you stay in shape long term, after your physio sessions have ended. We are not physiotherapists, and the Pilates way of dealing with injury is not the same, but our instructors have experienced at first hand how powerful pilates can be at dealing with injury. If you are living with a serious physical issue, we strongly suggest you start with private sessions as group classes are not the best place to address the complex issues surrounding injuries. Once you have reached a certain level in your pilates it may be possible to join a group class at the discretion of your instructor. |
